About Yoga & Pilates

Training for the whole you

There is yoga - and then there is yoga

When we talk about yoga, we mean genuine yoga. So it's not the same as yoga at the gym. But then what is the difference?
The first difference you will notice is in taking a course. To gradually learn all parts of yoga and develop week by week in a homogeneous group with a teacher who gets to know you and your needs. Many people associate yoga with either mainly physical postures, others have prejudices against yoga that it would be "fuzzy". We would like to describe yoga as a technique for physical and mental growth, an effective tool for creating balance between body and mind. Yoga is Sanskrit and means precisely balance or unite. And that's exactly what's great about getting it right
physical training, strength, mobility and body awareness and at the same time gradually gain tools for reflection, personal development and stress management. That is why many turn to yoga to achieve balance and well-being, physically as well as mentally. Regular yoga practice increases the ability to learn to listen inwardly. One discovers tensions and blockages in the body and mind. Once you have become aware of them, with the help of various techniques, you can solve everything from the ground up and achieve well-being and a fit body.

Pilates with us

Unlike traditional strength training, in Pilates we do not only work with the large muscles. By consciously training the deep muscles in all layers, we become more mobile and stronger, gain better body image and avoid pain and stiffness in the back, neck and shoulders.

Many people get hooked on Pilates precisely because you quickly feel strong, flexible and tight, because any back problems disappear, because you get nice training pains in places you didn't know you had muscles... in addition, the exercises are fun, challenging and it feels like the lesson going fast! We work according to Stott Pilates® principles.

In short, this means that we work according to certain basic principles regarding breathing, back, pelvis, shoulder blades and neck and build up our programs so that they contain a conscious mix of exercises at the right level that build up the whole body. In depth. It also means that we work according to modern findings instead of stubbornly claiming that Pilates was optimal in all parts when it was created by Joseph Pilates in the 30s. It was a fantastic foundation he laid with a vision of a well-balanced, strong body in a harmonious soul. Stott Pilates® has taken Pilates further in close collaboration with modern research in exercise and health.

Pilates at level 1 with us is suitable for everyone. As you build strength and body control and learn the exercises, you can advance to level 2.

With us, we practice pilates on mats. To get increased stability, higher load and more challenge, we also use pilates equipment. We work with flexibands, pilates rings, weight balls, blocks and pilates rollers. We dare to say that we hold Lidingö's most well-equipped pilates classes. This naturally makes training both effective and fun.

Why course?

There is a big difference between taking a pilates or yoga course versus practicing open classes. In a course, you start at your level, as does the whole group. You develop together and the teacher has the opportunity to deepen the various areas included in a structured manner.

The teacher gets to know you and your needs and can adapt and modify exercises just for you. It gets personal. It also creates a sense of security in the group, which is a prerequisite for going deep, both in physical and mental exercises. That, in turn, is what makes it so great to come back each week and re-energize.

Many of our customers testify that a great value for them is that they have their "sacred time". If you take a course with a dedicated time per week, you don't want to miss it. It makes it easier to prioritize. You get the continuity that makes all the difference in the experience of well-being.

History

During the first half of the 20th century, Joseph Pilates created a system of physical training that he called "controlology". He integrated the Western athletic toughness with East Asian disciplines. In doing so, he created what he called "an intellectual program that maximizes the potential for performance and for excellent physical form." The program develops a body that is dynamically balanced in both strength and flexibility, with a lot of abdominal and back training, which provides stability and "lengthens" the spine. The result is an elongated and sculpted body. A balance between the mental and physical is vital in a Pilates program.
Joseph Pilates created the method in the belief "that the key to a long life lies in a long and untroubled spine". And of course there is a lot in it! The goals of Pilates, as Joseph Pilates defined it, are:
  • To instill strength in body and soul
  • Not to get tired prematurely
  • To feel calm more easily, and give ability to process stress
  • To create a body that is fit, resilient, strong, and flexible
  • To improve the ability to work, play sports, practice sports or dance at a professional level
  • To correct imbalances
  • To acquire body awareness
  • Becoming "thrifty" in your movements Source: Gail Eisen's & Philip Friendmen: "The Pilates Method of Contrology"
